Archaeologists Excavate Ancient Bee Hives In Israel

Pune, January 21, 2008 (compiled by: MCS): In the last summer excavations at Tel Rehov in Israel's Beth Shean Valley, Archaeologists of the Jerusalem Institute of Archaeology, Hebrew University, discovered the earliest apiary of about 30 intact cylindrical unbaked clay hives along with ancient honey combs and beeswax (EurekAlert, Public release, September 3, 2007).


John Atkinson, Bee breeder Dies

Pune, April 3, 2008 (compiled by: MCS): John H Atkinson, NDB, author of the popular beekeeping and bee breeding books, bee breeder and a regular contributor to the Journal “The Beekeepers Quarterly” died on Friday, March 28, 2008, according to Apis-UK notice. Atkinson was a world figure in the field of beekeeping, and is well-known for his work, writings and knowledge on bee breeding.

In the Apis-UK notification Jeremy Burbidge adds that the funeral would be at Bury St Edmunds Crematorium on Friday April 11, 2008 at 3.00 pm.

Dr. Eva Crane Dies on September 6, 2007

Pune, December 29, 2007 (Compiled by MCS): Dr. Eva Crane a well-known authority on honey bees, beekeeping and apicultural research died on September 6, 2007 at the age of 95, according to the Timesonline (via The Times) September 15, 2007.
